Pulaski County was formally organized 6 May 1839, when a group of men met at a log cabin and designated “Winnemack”, on the bank of the Tippecanoe River, as the “Seat of Justice” and received donations of land for a public square, a public seminary, and a graveyard. Winamac was named after a Potawatomi Indian Chief who had lived in the area in the early 1800s. In addition to being the county seat, Winamac was the location of a government land office from 1839 to 1857 and hosted the infamous Ford Pinto Trial in 1980.
Today, Winamac is home to roughly 2,350 residents, several parks, restaurants, retail shops, and manufacturers, including world mobility leader BraunAbility.
