The Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council (JRAC) in Indiana is a collaborative body established to oversee and guide the implementation of justice-reinvestment initiatives aimed at improving the state’s criminal-justice system. Formed as a response to growing concerns about prison overcrowding, public safety, and the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs, JRAC brings together representatives from various sectors, including law-enforcement, judicial, and corrections officials, as well as community stakeholders and advocacy groups.
In accordance with legislation developed by the State JRAC, the local-JRAC statute was enacted on 8 April 2021, mandating the creation of a local JRAC in each county in Indiana.
As a result, Pulaski County formed its local JRAC in 2022. The primary goal of our local JRAC is to promote data-driven policies that allocate resources more efficiently while enhancing public safety and reducing recidivism. The committee meets on a quarterly basis throughout the year, conducts regular assessments of justice-related programs, and recommends strategies to improve outcomes. By fostering collaboration among different entities within the justice system, the JRAC team aims to create a more equitable and effective approach to criminal justice in Pulaski County, ultimately leading to safer a community and better support for individuals impacted by the justice system.
