The Pulaski County Historical Society (PCHS) exists to promote the history of Pulaski County, which was formally organized in 1839. The Historical Society promotes this history through its museum, tours, and educational programs.
In 2014, PCHS began renovations to the interior of the Vurpillat Opera House, a community icon built in 1882. The museum hosted hundreds of school children for spring educational tours. Several cemetery tours were conducted, and the Junior Civil War Club made an overnight trip to tour Civil War sites. A popular educational program discussed historical barns, bridges, and block houses that can still be found throughout the county.
In 2015, PCHS will concentrate on sharing history by increasing our presence on the Web and social media with ongoing articles such as “This Place Matters,” a look back at history and why it matters to us.
